Best Table Radio/Alarm Clock For The Money : Sangean WR-5 Table-Top AM/FM/RDS with iPod Dock, Battery Back-Up and Passive Reflex Speakers
Maybe I was expecting too much. I have an old Sangean Rs-330 Clock radio which has a 5 inch full range speaker and is capable of exquisite full bodied sound quality, so I improbable similar from the Sangean Wr-5, but was disappointed instead. The Wr-5 has only 2" speakers in front, and as a supervene the mid-range tones are approximately totally absent! Lots of bass and high frequency response, but if you like to hear the human voice singing, you will be sadly disappointed! My 1939 Zenith radio sounds good for voice tones.
This unit does have nice features like the remote control, though I agree with the other reviewers that the display is too thoughprovoking for the bedroom on the bottom setting, so you have to turn it off.
The build potential is Ok, but nothing to get excited about, and certainly inferior to the build potential of the Sangean Rs-330. The outer case is plastic with fake plastic wood look grain, not real wood. The controls are fiddly and cheaply made which is very disappointing compared to the Sangeans of old.
Bottom line is that this Wr-5 radio is about as good as you can find for the price these days, but just don't expect full range fidelity sound, or high build quality, because it ain't there!
